Young Missionaries of Christ (YMC) of the Central Cebu District Association of Churches (CCDAC) celebrated Global Youth Day on March 16, 2025, at the Ibabao Estancia Gym, Ibabao, Mandaue City.
During this event, YMC-CCDAC aimed to make a difference in the community by providing a pair of slippers to children who were victims of a recent fire and are currently staying at the gymnasium. Before the distribution, the children were engaged in learning action songs and playing games, which brought joy and laughter to their day. The parents expressed their happiness at seeing their children enjoying themselves.
Following the distribution of the slippers, a traditional Filipino rice porridge, locally known as “pospas,” was served. Everyone shared in this nutritious meal. Since there was still a good amount of pospas remaining, some of the young people decided to take it to Mantuyong Gymnasium to distribute it to other fire victims sheltered there.
The experience brought a unique sense of fulfillment and joy to the young participants, who felt they were actively contributing to the transformation of their community.
Mon Andrew Retuya, YMC-CCDAC president, reflected, “I initially thought that attending several events would be exhausting, but after the Global Youth Day program ended, I felt only fulfillment and pride in our ability to bless others with what we have. I am incredibly grateful and proud of the community we have built. As youth, we came together to make this event successful. I have come to realize that serving the Lord gives us a purpose that surpasses our personal desires, and I am excited about what He has planned for us.”
Another attendee, Bro. Sivan Vios, shared, “I feel that we have truly made a difference for the people, especially the kids in our community. I hope that through our small acts of kindness, such as giving gifts and organizing games, we have alleviated some of the sadness they felt after the fire tragedy.
“I was particularly touched when one of the community leaders approached us to express gratitude, saying that our activities had brought happiness to their kids during a tough time. Sometimes, in our spiritual journey, we may feel tired and hopeless, but being part of this activity rejuvenates my spirit and motivates me to continue leading, inspiring, and helping others for God’s glory,” Vios added.
Participating in community transformation activities offers young people a valuable opportunity for spiritual growth. The success of the event was made possible by God’s guidance and the collaborative efforts of YMC officers, CCDAC officers, CCDAC District Pastor Jemwin Colegado (who was also present), local church youth leaders and elders, and CCDAC’s Women’s Ministry.
