New Adventist Radio Ministry to Serve the Visayas in Local Languages

Cebu City, Philippines—(October 28, 2024)—The Central Philippine Union Conference launched Adventist World Radio (AWR) Central Philippines today, a new internet radio broadcasting ministry aimed at reaching the diverse communities of the Visayan region.

The event, held at the CPUC headquarters in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines, was attended by officers and directors of the missions and conferences across CPUC.

AWR Central Philippines seeks to share the gospel message in the hearts of the people in Central Visayas through their languages. It will include Visayan languages such as Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray-Waray, Kinaray-a, Capiznon, and other local dialects.

This initiative is part of AWR’s larger global mission to connect people with the love and teachings of Jesus Christ in over 100 languages. For them, there are no walls, no borders, and no limits in evangelism. Their broadcasts travel where missionaries can’t go, transforming lives for eternity.

Currently available online as AWR Internet Radio, the ministry is actively pursuing an FM radio frequency to further expand its reach. AWR Central Philippines aims to provide spiritual nourishment through uplifting programs, biblical teachings, and inspiring stories. The ministry also plans to address social issues and promote positive values through its programs.

“The Visayan region is a beautiful blend of cultures and languages,” said Pastor Jenboy Luston, the current Hope Channel Central Philippines production head. “Our mission is to reach every corner of the Visayas, speaking directly to hearts through the familiar sounds of their own dialects.”

Pastor Luston has also been designated as the new coordinator of the new AWR Central Philippines. During the launching ceremony, he emphasized that AWR Central Philippines is committed to invading every corner of Central Visayas with the message of hope and salvation. It aims to connect all walks of life by bringing the message to the confines of their homes, to their workplaces, and to wherever they are.

Pastor Roseller Zamora, the AWR Asia Pacific associate director, graced the event with his presence and inspiring message. He began with a question that likely resonates with many: Does radio ministry still hold value in a world dominated by social media?

Pastor Zamora elaborated on his answer to the question he posed. He said that in today’s digital age, doubts about whether the radio ministry remains relevant are valid. However, while social media platforms offer instant connectivity and diverse content, radio ministry continues to hold its own unique space. Its enduring relevance lies in its ability to embrace technological innovations, expanding its reach beyond traditional broadcasts. It can be loud in the cities, but also echo through mountain terrains where internet signals are limited.

Furthermore, by developing content that addresses contemporary issues and creates meaningful engagement with the community, radio ministry can continue to be a powerful force for the ministry.

Also emphasizing collaboration and unity as the key to effective ministry, Pastor Zamora said, “When we are together, we become unstoppable in evangelism.”

As evidence of its commitment to expanding its ministry, AWR is poised to launch in seven new countries in 2025, aiming to reach other diverse cultures and nationalities. Pastor Zamora revealed this plan to show the listeners how God works through impossibilities in radio ministry.

Pastor Zamora, alongside Pastor Eliezer ‘Joer’ Barlizo Jr., CPUC president, Pastor Berdandino Maniego, CPUC Communication/Public Affairs and Religious Liberty/ASI director, and Pastor Calev Maquirang, CPUC executive secretary, facilitated the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Moreover, Pastor Renito Inapan, CPUC treasurer, offered the dedicatory prayer.

Looking back on his first experiences with radio ministries and comparing them to this current accomplishment, Pastor Barlizo thanked all those behind such a huge milestone. He especially mentioned the communication and multimedia departments under the leadership of Pastor Maniego, Pastor Luston, Engr. Clyde Carpena, and Pastor Lemmuel Lauron.

While Pastor Barlizo mentioned the support CPUC got from the main headquarters of AWR and the Southern Asia-Pacific Division’s administrators, he also didn’t miss appreciating the presence of the leaders of various missions and conferences who all shared the joy of this momentous event.

The ceremony concluded with a festive luncheon, after which attendees departed for their respective missions and conferences.

Soon, AWR Central Philippines will start broadcasting and launching its program; thus, it invites the community to join in this mission by tuning in to its online broadcasts and offering prayers and support.
