Fifty-seven members of master guide clubs in Metro Cebu volunteered to participate in the community cleanup drive at Barangay Day-as, Cebu City, on Sept. 14, 2025.
The Cebu Masterguides Clubs officers, along with the Capitol Center Seventh-day Adventist Church Masterguides Club (Sidlak), Guila-guila Masterguides Club (Agila), adventurers, pathfinders, and youth from various Metro Cebu Adventist churches, successfully conducted this inaugural initiative through their collaboration.
The goal of the cleanup drive was to promote cleanliness and order in the barangay while also embodying the Christian values of service and stewardship. Additionally, it aimed to demonstrate the clubs’ willingness to collaborate with government programs focused on community services.
The event began with a devotional to seek God’s presence and blessings for the activity. Davijon Dollosa, one of the master guides present, emphasized the importance of developing a deep personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ through daily Bible reading and prayer.
His message echoed the truth in Joshua 1:8, which states, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.”
After the devotional, the facilitators presented a certificate of appreciation to the barangay officials as a token of gratitude for their support and for welcoming this initiative into their community.
This act also reflected the value that the officers placed on the collaboration between the church youth and barangay leadership, promoting a spirit of unity in working for the common good.
Volunteers were dispatched to three designated areas for the cleanup. Master guides, pathfinders, adventurers, and young people collected garbage and helped restore cleanliness to the surroundings.
During the reflection moment at the gymnasium, the facilitators reiterated a passage from Ellen G. White’s book “Education,” page 262, stating, “True education is missionary training. Every son and daughter of God is called to be a missionary; we are called to the service of God and our fellow men.”
For the volunteers, the community initiative became a practical application of this counsel, demonstrating that even simple acts of service can glorify God and bring blessings to others.
Nestro Pilapil, Central Cebu District Master Guide Club youth president, expressed his joy at the event, “May this event inspire continued collaboration between the church and the community. May the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven,” be always in our hearts.”
The rest of the organizers and officers also expressed their gratitude to everyone involved, noting that the success of the first cleanup drive was made possible through their cooperation, the support of barangay officials, organizers, master guides, youth participants, and most importantly, God’s guidance and providence.
