The Maasin District, under the East Visayas Conference, joined the global celebration of the 150TH Anniversary of Continuing the Legacy of Sending Missionaries on Sept. 21, 2024.
This milestone highlights the impact and significance of missionary work throughout the years.
With this, the brethren across Maasin District gathered at the Acasia Seventh-day Adventist Church, Maasin, Southern Leyte, to hold a back-to-back celebration of the 150th anniversary of Sending Missionaries and the 33rd Anniversary of the Missionary Outreach Volunteers for Eternity Organization.
During the Sabbath, Jeralyn Vanzuela, the MMM President, led the sabbath worship by highlighting the 150th Anniversary of Adventist Missionary Work.
She shared valuable information about these celebrations, including their history and the reasons behind commemorating them. “These anniversary celebrations,” Miss Vanzuela said, “are not merely historical commemorations but a powerful reminder of our calling as a church, carrying on the mission to spread the gospel.”
“Thus, I am encouraging everyone, especially the MOVE members, to get involved in this great mission. His mission is our mission. As we celebrate the legacy of missionaries, we should strive to become missionaries by spreading the word of God, living a Christ-like life, and doing His work. Let’s move forward together!” she continued.
Furthermore, Pastor Apolonio Pastera Jr., EVC Health and Sabbath School director and Adventist Community Services coordinator, emphasized the significance of the celebration during the hour of worship.
Focusing on the younger generation, he fervently encouraged the church members to embrace the ongoing mission of sharing the gospel and spreading the love of Christ to the world.
His powerful message was a call to commitment, encouraging everyone to actively participate in carrying on the legacy of missionary work, a vital part of our church’s history for over 150 years.
On a Sunday, the MOVE organization, in collaboration with the Adventist Community Service | Adventist Response Team Maasin chapter and the Maasin District Women, organized a special program in Barangay Cansirong, Maasin City.
To commemorate 150 years of missionary work, these groups held a feeding program for 150 kids and distributed 150 inspirational tracks. In addition, the team also conducted community service and provided used but presentable clothes to the parents in attendance.
The brethren in the Maasin District, along with Pastor Esmael Adaron, the district pastor, rejoiced to have shared the love of Christ in this way.
“Let’s continue to be a blessing to others, and together, let’s move forward in actively participating in this great mission,” Pastor Aaron said.
The program culminated with a sense of joy and fulfillment springing in the hearts of those who participated.
