Bulacao, Talisay City (June 20, 2025) —Adventist Academy Cebu in Bulacao, Talisay City, Cebu, celebrated a momentous occasion today with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new girls’ dormitory.
This pivotal event highlighted the second day of the institution’s ongoing 95th Founding Anniversary Celebration and Alumni Homecoming, marking a new chapter in its commitment to student welfare and development.
The ceremony, attended by the school’s officers, faculty, alumni, and distinguished guests, symbolized AAC’s continuous growth and dedication to providing a nurturing environment for its students.
Bulacao’s Barangay Captain Banjo Abastillas and his constituents were among these esteemed guests.
“I didn’t realize earlier that East Visayan Academy was built in 1930,” Abastillas commented during his speech, speaking on behalf of Talisay City Mayor Samsam V. Gullas, who could not attend because of prior appointments.
East Visayan Academy was AAC’s former name, which Abastillas said is still widely recognized. He recounted how he sees its growth, as well as the success of friends who had been in this institution.
The new girls’ dormitory is envisioned to provide an additional home for female students, addressing the current denial of many applicants due to limited space.
In addition, this new building will be a modern, safe, and comfortable living space designed to provide the girls with areas conducive to study, learning, and growth.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, all labor will be in vain,” Pastor Eliezer “Joer” Barlizo Jr., CPUC president, said. He delivered an inspirational message during the ceremony, being the honored guest speaker.
“I’m glad that AAC’s faculty are united in their desire and commitment to help build this project,” he added, emphasizing how rewarding it is to be a part of this another milestone.
Pastor Isaias Guisando, education director of the Central Visayan Conference, presented the history, recounting years of God’s faithfulness amidst challenges.
Furthermore, he stated that constructing this new dormitory proves AAC’s visionary approach, addressing the increasing demand for on-campus accommodation.
Ruby Myrrh G. Ortega, Ph. D., and AAC High School principal, stated, “This groundbreaking is more than just laying a foundation; it’s about building a home for our future leaders.”
Ortega’s statement reechoed during the litany led by Ulysses Eullaran, CVC treasurer. It says, “We praise you, Lord, for your faithfulness. You have brought us to this day of new beginnings. For the vision to provide a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered home for our students, where minds are shaped, and character is built.
Pastor Calev Maquirang, CPUC executive secretary, offered the dedicatory prayer before the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony and ribbon-cutting.
After this, Justice Ken Francisco, AAC treasurer, acknowledged the donors whom God touched to become channels of blessing for this shelter.
The 95th Founding Anniversary Celebration and Alumni Homecoming is a series of events designed to honor the institution’s rich history, celebrate its achievements, and connect with its alumni network.
For the leaders, alumni, faculty, and students, this groundbreaking ceremony served as a powerful reminder of AAC’s ongoing growth and essential role in shaping the future of children.
