Adventist Hospital-Cebu Hosts Leadership Seminar with Expert Joshua Goh

Adventist Hospital-Cebu hosted a ‘Hospital Management and Leadership Seminar,’ featuring Joshua Goh, on Sep. 25, 2024.

Goh is the former CEO of 21 hospitals across Singapore, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. He is also an adviser to more than 30 healthcare entities globally, including Adventist Healthcare System.

Held at the 4th Floor Main Conference Room of Adventist Hospital-Cebu, Brgy. San Nicolas, Cebu City, AH-C department managers, and directors attended the event. Moreover, leaders from Adventist Hospital Calbayog joined via Zoom.

During the event, the participants praised Goh’s practical insights and relevant stories on improving hospital management and leadership.

Goh emphasized the importance of authenticity in delivering healthcare services, paralleling it to being authentic with God, who sees all that we do. He highlighted the need for hospitals to build trust and value by prioritizing quality care for patients.

Using the “3H’s” concept—Heads, Hands, and Hearts—he explained that department heads or managers are the backbone of the hospital, equipped with skills and driven by strong beliefs and values.

He reminded everyone of the hospital’s mission to ‘touch lives through the healing ministry of Christ,’ pointing out that ministry is not just the chaplain’s job but everyone’s responsibility. He also powerfully quoted St. Francis of Assisi, “At all times, preach the Gospel, and if necessary, use words.”

In closing, Goh urged the leaders to rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance, always striving to make “the best” even better.

Love Le Mohagan, AH-C vice president for the Nursing Department, shared her thoughts on the seminar. “The leadership seminar was informative, inspiring, and timely. It’s not every day that we get to listen and be inspired by someone equally passionate in healthcare management and the promulgation of the gospel message.”

“His passion was contagious,” Mohagan continued, “and it left us all feeling motivated and enthusiastic about our roles in healthcare management and the promulgation of the gospel message.”

“How he made us understand the importance of the amalgamation of healthcare leadership and medical ministry is just amazing!”

Furthermore, Hazel Arcelo, AH-C chief pharmacist, shared how she enjoyed the seminar and how it was presented. She said it was an eye-opener for the department managers to always be professional in dealing with one another.

“Knowing the possible outcomes if we value and motivate our staff was inspiring based on Mr. Josh’s amazing experiences. I totally agree with him that if the Holy Spirit is in us, we can come up with the right decisions.”

Dr. Evelyn Pepito, the president of Adventist Hospital-Cebu, also expressed gratitude, calling the seminar comprehensive, lively, practically achievable, and inspiring leaders to embrace servant leadership principles.
