Since 2022, Capitol Center Seventh-day Adventist Church in Osmeña Boulevard, N Escario St, Cebu City, Cebu, has faithfully conducted a prayer marathon every Wednesday night from 9:30 PM until 12 midnight, a program that has become a spiritual anchor for its members and a growing community of believers both near and far.
Under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Edgar V. Bojos, the initiative was born out of a desire to encourage a deeper, more committed prayer life in the church — modeled after the intense prayer Jesus experienced in Gethsemane.
Its goal is to call the church to watch and pray, especially in these uncertain and trying times.
Drawing from Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 26:38, which says, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me—” the weekly prayer gathering is more than just a tradition — it’s a spiritual revival.
Each session focuses on healing from life-threatening conditions, reconciliation in broken families, success in exams, careers, and business endeavors, as well as spiritual renewal and reconsecration to God.
Participants engage in praise and Bible reflections. They share testimonies while partaking in fervent intercessory prayer. This combination creates an uplifting atmosphere that draws individuals closer to Christ.
Over the past two years, attendees have shared powerful testimonies of answered prayers.
This spiritual initiative echoed Ellen White’s counsel in Review and Herald, March 22, 1887, which says, “A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek this should be our first work.”
What began as a local initiative has now become a movement, inspiring and encouraging other churches and individuals across the Philippines and beyond to adopt similar late-hour prayer gatherings.
The Capitol Center Church sincerely invites all Adventist churches worldwide to join them in this midweek spiritual battle and unite with them in prayer wherever they are.
In Jeremiah 33:3, Jesus says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
As the signs of the times unfold around us, the call to prayer becomes ever more urgent. Let us not sleep during these critical hours. Instead, we heed the call of Gethsemane — to watch, pray, and prepare for the soon coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The Capitol Center SDA Church hosts the prayer marathon every Wednesday night from 9:30 p.m. to midnight at their location in Cebu City.
Everyone is encouraged to join them in the altar, share testimonies, and experience God’s blessings and faithfulness through united prayers.
