Cebu City, Philippines (May 25, 2025)—Four hundred residents in Cebu City received essential medical care today through a free medical mission organized by the Chinese-Filipino Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Partnering with the Central Philippine Union Conference (CPUC) and Gilead Cares, the event at the CPUC headquarters on Gorordo Avenue brought essential health services directly to the community.
Gilead Cares, a dedicated team of mostly medical professionals, offered a wide range of free health services to meet various community needs.
The services included vital signs checking, general medical check-ups, dental cleaning and extraction, optical examinations, legal consultations, minor surgical procedures and circumcisions, random blood sugar testing, and blood typing.
The mission successfully served a total of 400 clients who left grateful for the free medical care and medications within their grasp.
One of the clients from a neighboring community expressed her gratitude for the mission, saying, “I’m so grateful for this service. If I had known about it earlier, I would have come hours ago.”
Despite the presence of a generous number of staff, she still had to queue for her turn. “This isn’t my first time attending a free healthcare event like this. I always look forward to it,” she added.
This important community initiative followed a successful evangelistic crusade held at ARC Towers in Cebu, aimed at the elites. While this community outreach provided the church an opportunity to reach out to those who are at the marginal level, it also offered a better perspective to connect with the professionals.
Prince Pollescas, one of the senior elders at Chi-Fil SDA Church, stated, “Activities like this provide us with one of the best opportunities to connect with professionals, as they participate through their friends. The rapport we build with them also allows them to get to know us better.”
Thus, this event highlights the active role of the Chi-Fil Church within the broader evangelistic aspect, including the elite ministry.
Leonardo Ramirez, one of the Hope Channel Central Philippines documentation team, expressed gratitude to be a part of such an outreach. “It’s a blessing to be a blessing.”
In addition, Goldie Uy, an officer of the Chi-Fil SDA Church, stated, “There is a tremendous blessing in medical missions. Although the expenses often exceed expectations, contributions continue to flow in.”
Pastor Kim Felias, the church pastor, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who dedicated their time to this missionary work, particularly the benevolent hearts of the church members and leaders.
He also thanked the CPUC administrators for their support of this community outreach.
Given the success of this initiative, the Chi-Fil SDA Church leaders are now considering the next medical mission and have begun contemplating how to make it even better and larger.
